My Personal Testimonial
As a child and young adult, I did not do any running. Not once did I even think of or try out for an elementary, highschool or varsity track or cross-country team. So don't think you have to be a natural-born runner - you certainly don't! I started running much later in life on the suggestion of a friend who obviously loved it herself. I started on a treadmill and felt awkward and clumsy. I didn't have a natural stride or gait whatsoever. I got shin splints and my hip hurt. I almost gave up - but then I thought: Wait a second...I'm not trying to do back flips here! I'm just trying to put one foot in front of the other! That can not be too much to ask of this young body - I was only 28!
Sometimes we humans are just too quick to conclude that ‘we can't.’ Perhaps we forget to be patient with ourselves, to nurture ourselves, to encourage ourselves, to listen to ourselves, to trust ourselves, to believe in ourselves. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF - YOU CAN DO IT!
Imagine starting up a car engine that has not been used for years. It will sputter, stall, make terrible sounds, and perhaps not even start on the first few tries. The human body is quite similar. Suddenly your blood is in great demand and being directed to all these strange places, like your legs and shins, that it is not accustomed to catering to. But don't give up! Give your body a chance! GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE!
The bigggest thing I learned from running is my goodness WE ARE CAPABLE OF SO MUCH MORE THAN WE THINK WE ARE! If I can do this, trust me, you can, too!
